Dec. 19, 1999

MILWAUKEE -

The UW-Milwaukee Panthers lost to the Creighton Blue Jays at the Klotsche Center, 80-69 Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers (5-4) came out in the first half with a press that looked to wear on the Blue Jays early as they took a 37-33 lead into the break.

"Today we would score and then our defense would pick up the intensity but it needs be the other way, our defense needs to create our offense," said UWM coach Sandy Botham.

In the second half, UWM was unable to counter the guard presence of Creighton's Angela Timmons who led all scorers with 31 points to accompany her team high six assists.

For the Panthers junior center Janelle Jonason led the way with 15 points to go along with her six rebounds. Freshman guard Jessica Wilhite continued her stellar play with 14 points and a career-high 9 rebounds and junior guard Teri Stoltenberg scored 11 points and had four assists.

"They didn't take anything away from us, we just didn't hit our open opportunities," said Botham.

Creighton (4-3) was coming off of an emotional 77-69 loss to Nebraska and a 55-54 upset win over the 14th ranked Kansas Jayhawks on Dec. 7.

The Panthers look ahead to four consecutive road games starting with Missouri on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. UWM begins conference play on Jan. 13 at Cleveland State.
