UWM Women's Basketball team loses, 78-58

Nov. 24, 1999

MILWAUKEE -

The UWM women's basketball team lost, 78-58, to the Buffalo Bulls in their first regular season home game at the Klotsche center Wednesday night.

The Panthers (1-1) held tight in the first half and ended with a 25-24 lead at the break, but the second half was a different ball game.

"It was like night and day," explained UWM coach Sandy Botham. "We didn't adjust and we played against two different teams tonight."

The Bulls, led by Tiffany Bell's game high 29 points, came out aggressively in the second half and put 54 points on the board to UW-M's 33.

Junior Janelle Jonason led the Panther attack with 11 points and 5 rebounds before fouling out with three minutes left in the game.

Botham was able to find positive aspects in the loss.

"It's a good wake-up call for us and we need to use this as a building block," said Botham. "Buffalo is the type of team we are going to see in the MCC."

The Panthers travel to DeKalb, Ill. to face the Northern Illinois Huskies on Sunday November 28, at 2:05 p.m. CST.
