Panthers Fall in First Exhibition

Nov. 10, 1999

Milwaukee -

The UWM women?s basketball team opened up the 1999-2000 exhibition season with a 69-66 loss to the Lithuanian club team Viktorija at the Klotsche Center Wednesday night.

?Tonight was a good learning experience for our players,? said UWM coach Sandy Botham. ?We?ve got a lot of people. We?re just trying to find out combinations. We have so many weapons, and what were trying to get out of the exhibition season is combinations.?

The Panthers led at the end of the first half, 39-28, but were unable to hold the lead after a surge from Viktorija late in the game.

?In the second half our shots didn?t fall as easily, but we can?t rely on our shooting, we need to rely on our defense and crashing the boards,? said UWM head coach Sandy Botham.

Junior forward Janelle Jonason led the way for the Panthers with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Pre-season All-MCC first teamer Daryl Schaffeld, also chipped in with 14 points of her own.

The Panthers will finish up the exhibition season against the Chicago Challengers, Sunday, November 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the Klotsche Center.
