MILWAUKEE - Junior forward Katie Waltenberger scored two second-half goals as UWM topped Oakland University, 2-1, Sunday afternoon. The Golden Grizzlies were ranked ninth in the regional poll, one spot ahead of UWM.

The win moves the Panthers to 6-5-1 on the season heading into a three conference games in a row.

They're a good team and they were ranked ahead of us in the regional poll," said UWM head coach Michael Moynihan. "Their central midfielder played on Norway's World Cup team this past year."

UWM's Stefanie Hosni found Waltenberger on a breakaway in the 68 minute of the game. Waltenberger beat the keeper to the near post, tying the game, 1-1.

"We've been working on our penetration play all week," said Moynihan. "It was an impressive run and an impressive performance for us. Katie only played 20 minutes for us, but she made the difference."

Waltenberger's second goal mirrored her first, coming just five minutes later when Dani Alberg lead her to the box.

"We've been playing a lot of games lately against some really tough opponents," said Moynihan. "We have three conference games in a row so it's a big stretch for us."

UWM plays host to Loyola on Tuesday night at Uihlein Soccer Park starting at 7:00 p.m.
