INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced that Milwaukee starting pitcher
Riley Peterson has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week following a strong outing against Oakland on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Peterson pitched six shutout innings in the series clincher against the Golden Grizzlies, scattering three hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
Â
Sunday's outing extended a recent run of success for Peterson, who has allowed just one earned run over his last 18 innings over three starts. The left-hander pitched five hitless innings and struck out eight against Butler on Mar. 28, then followed that perfomance with a career-best nine strikeouts over seven innings in the team's win over Youngstown State on Apr. 4.
Â
For the season, Peterson has thrown a career-high 35 1/3 innings and recorded a career-best 42 strikeouts. He has already matched his career-high in wins with three, equaling his total from the 2025 campaign. Opponents are hitting .273 against Peterson this season over nine outings, including eight starts.
Â
For his career, Peterson has an 8-8 record with two saves and has a career 6.35 earned run average, along with 92 strikeouts over 90 2/3 innings.
Â
This is the first time in Peterson's career that he has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week and makes him the second Panther to earn a weekly honor in 2026. On Mar. 16,
Dylan O'Connell was named Batter of the Week by the conference.
Â
Peterson becomes the first pitcher to earn weekly honors since
Gavin Theis did so on May 13 of last season. Theis was a two-time Pitcher of the Week in 2025, while
Aric Ehmke also earned recognition in early April a season ago.
Â
Milwaukee returns to action Thursday afternoon, hosting Northern Kentucky at 3:00 p.m. at Franklin Field.
