Elam And Franklin Claim Horizon League Postseason Honors

First all-freshman honoree since 2023

March 02, 2026

MILWAUKEE – Stevie Elam and Aaron Franklin of the Milwaukee men's basketball team were selected for Horizon League postseason honors today when the conference office announced the all-league teams and specialty award winners.

Elam was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, while Franklin was selected for the Horizon League Sportsmanship Award.

Elam has played above his years over his newcomer campaign, heading into postseason play with averages of 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He has made 11 starts in his 24 appearances – missing over a month due to injury earlier this winter – and is shooting 35.8 percent (49-of-137) from deep and 84.0 percent (42-of-50) from the free throw line this season. He is just the third Panther to be named to the all-freshman team all-time and the first since Elijah Jamison in 2023.

Elam has scored in double-figures on 14 occasions this season, including 20+ twice: the first time against Cleveland State Feb. 1 (21 points) and the second with his season-high of 22 at Detroit Mercy Feb. 20 in front of a large contingent of family and friends in the arena that made the short drive from his hometown. He has led the team in scoring twice and in rebounds in four outings. He was also named Horizon League Freshman of the Week on two instances.

Franklin has been an invaluable veteran presence, helping the locker room navigate the injury situation the team dealt with over the past few months while also seeing his role on the court increase. He is averaging 6.8 points and 6.4 rebounds a night, shooting 56.7 percent (85-of-150) from the floor overall, making 21 starts while appearing in all 31 games. His rebound total ranks sixth among Horizon League leaders. He put together an impressive outing against Cleveland State Feb. 1, nearly recording the sixth triple-double in program history when he finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high nine assists.

Per the conference press release, the Sportsmanship Award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Sportsmanship is defined as behavior exhibited during competition by student-athletes based on values, respect and integrity.
