MADISON, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's tennis team opened its spring campaign with a road trip to take on Wisconsin, falling to the in-state rival by a final score of 4-0 Saturday evening from Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
 
The Panthers (0-1) gave the Badgers (4-1) a strong showing in several matches, including at No. 1 doubles where the team of Emilia Durska and Nel Van Hout was ahead, 4-3, when the match was halted after the clinching doubles point was scored.
 
"Today was a great opportunity against a really solid team who has had much success," head coach Mark Goldin said. "Across the board, the team fought and hung in there, showcasing what they are capable of – even against the highest level of competition."
 
In singles play, Nadiia Konieva gave No. 47 in the country Maria Sholokhova all she could handle in the first set, falling 6-4 before her second set was halted, again due to clinch.
 
Emilia Durska was all tied up with Kaja Jacobson at 6-6 in No. 3 singles, with the match going unfinished after UW picked up straight-set victories at No. 4 through No. 6 singles to round out the sweep.
 
"Many spots did not appear to be their first dual of the season, which tells me we are ready and well prepared for season" Goldin said. "Coach Marek (Badger head coach Marek Michalicka) did a great job recruiting and it is always a fun time playing in the Nielsen Tennis Center."
 
The Panthers are right back at it in the morning, taking on Harvard in a neutral-site matchup still in Madison. Start time is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
