Women's Basketball Drops Regular Season Road Finale to Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Host Green Bay outscored Milwaukee 40-14 in the first half of Saturday's Horizon League contest and went on to win by a 68-45 score over the Panthers at the Kress Events Center.

The Phoenix shot better than 55 percent in the first half and used a 17-0 run to close out the first 20 minutes of play to take their lead into the halftime break. Maddy Schreiber led Green Bay with 13 first-half points and ended the game with a team-best 18 on the afternoon.

"This is a very good and very experienced Green Bay team," commented head coach Kyle Rechlicz after the game. "They came out and were hitting threes … and to counter that we were just struggling to score in the first half."

Milwaukee was unable to get anything going on the offensive side in the first half, knocking down just five field goals. Three of the makes came from distance as Anna Lutz, Kacee Baumhower, and Jorey Buwalda all connected from deep.

Lutz finished the game with a team-best 10 points on the afternoon, while Kamy Peppler had seven points and a team-best five rebounds. Izzy Pugh chipped in with six points with three makes for Milwaukee.

In the second half, Milwaukee outscored Green Bay by three, which included a game-best 46.2 percent from the field in the fourth quarter. However, the late push was just not enough to overcome the early deficit.

"We played more fearless in the second half, we were shooting our shots instead of hesitating," Rechlicz added. "I'm proud of who we are … I love coaching this team because there's no quit in this group, they wanted to get better in the locker room at halftime and they didn't quit."

Peppler, Baumhower, and Kallie Peppler each had a team-best two assists each, while Kamy and Lutz had two steals each to lead the way.

Jada Williams, Payton Rechlicz, and Hallie Majoros all connected on three pointers as the Panthers had eight makes from distance on the afternoon.

Milwaukee will wrap up the regular season on Thursday evening with a home contest against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Klotsche Center.
