Unbeaten Streak Reaches New Horizon League Record In 6-0 Win

Milwaukee tops IU Indy to run streak to 37 straight

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's soccer team broke the conference record by extending its current unbeaten streak in regular-season Horizon League play to 37 games in a row with an impressive 6-0 victory over IU Indy Thursday night at Engelmann Stadium.

The Panthers (10-4-2, 7-0-1 Horizon League) broke the mark with a team effort against the Jaguars (3-10-2, 2-4-1 Horizon League), getting goals from six different players as well as assists from seven different players.

"I thought we played very well and it's great to be home," head coach Kevin Boyd said. "And we are good at home, just like other people are good at their houses. I thought we played very well. I thought we connected significantly better tonight and that we were relentless in our drive to goal on a regular basis – and that is something we were trying to get. We really wanted to get at the back line continuously and I thought we did that pretty well."

The win extends MKE's unbeaten streak to a new mark of 37, going 30-0-7 since its last loss in regular-season league play – way back in September of 2022 – a span of 1,127 days.

"I feel fortunate to be a part of that record," Boyd said. "Obviously, that is four teams worth of creating that record – which is quite remarkable – and they [current team] are the recipients of that right now. But there are players at home right now, or abroad playing pro, that all contributed to that record."

Lola Wojcik started the scoring early, getting Milwaukee on the board in the 12th minute with her fifth of the season, assisted by Kiersten White.

Just 87 seconds later, the lead was doubled, with Kristina Karlof banging in her fourth of the campaign, set up with a pass in front from Ellie Rebmann. Natalie Zodrow created the scoring strike with a well-placed pass over the IU Indy backline.

The offense was clicking and made quick work of the Jaguars in the first half, striking for two more before the halftime horn hit.

Jenni Andjelic made it 3-0 at the 29:55 mark, bombing in a shot from long distance for her third of the season.

Ashlyn Skinner-Barrett netted the fourth, this time picking up a turnover in back and knocking it off the far post and in for her fourth of the campaign in the 35th minute.

The team came out hot in the second half, adding to its insurmountable lead with another tally just 54 seconds into the period. This time it was Mallory McGuire, scoring her league-leading eighth of the season after slotting in a perfectly-placed lead pass off the foot of Wojcik.

Boyd subbed liberally the rest of the way (24 players saw the field), but the Panthers weren't done yet. Emily Petring put the exclamation on the win, volleying in a ball off a corner kick flick at the 82:47 mark to round out the scoring in the 6-0 shutout. Caroline Boeckman sent in the corner, headed over to Petring by Taylor Richards.

"It was also great to get so many people on the field," Boyd said. "What that does is save some legs with people going into Sunday. And because they did so well scoring some goals, we got to go even deeper than that, which is really good for us going forward."

Not to be lost in the offensive fireworks was the ninth shutout of the season for the defense, this time shared between starting goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach (67:36/5 saves) and Lilly Hanke (22:24/2 saves).

On the night, the MKE offense rang up advantages of 22-12 in total shots, 9-7 in shots on goal, and 9-1 in corner kicks, as well as finishing with 55 percent of possession in the match. Wojcik paced the offense with three points (1G/1A), while Petring finished the evening with a career-high seven shot attempts.

Up next, the team welcomes Wright State Sunday, set for a 1 p.m. start. In addition to "Senior Day" festivities pregame, the Panthers will have the opportunity to claim their fifth consecutive regular-season title with a victory.
