Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Milwaukee women's tennis team begins its 2024 fall season this past weekend with the Gopher Invitational at Baseline Tennis Center, with competition running from Friday through Sunday.
 
Twelve teams competed in singles and doubles action over the course of the event: St. Thomas, Marquette, North Dakota, South Dakota, Omaha, Northern Iowa, Creighton, Northern Illinois, Milwaukee, Drake, and University of Chicago.
 
"This was a great start for the Panthers this fall," head coach Mark Goldin said. "From top-to-bottom, the team is playing at a high level early in the year. It was a busy three days and I am proud of the girls, we held true to our team identity by competing hard with lots of respect towards our opponents. The freshmen also did great in their first college competition. We are looking forward to cleaning up a few things this week to get ready for the Illinois State invite next weekend."
 
Leading the way for the Panthers in singles action was Elisa Rubio with a perfect 3-0 record and Emilia Durska at 2-1.
 
Rubio made a great first impression, winning her individual matches against St. Thomas Friday, Northern Iowa Saturday, and North Dakota Sunday – all in straight sets.
 
Durska came out on top in three sets against the University of Chicago Friday and knocked off Northern Iowa Saturday before coming up just short against St. Thomas on the final day of the event.
 
In doubles action, the team of Nadiia Konieva and Nikola Nikolajeva led the charge, going 3-2 in their five matches. Giorgia Cavestro and Honoka Yamashita compiled a pair of victories in their five matches.
 
Konieva and Nikolajeva dropped their first match against the University of Chicago and then claimed three of their next four, taking a pair from Omaha and a third from Creighton.
 
Cavestro and Yamashita faced tough battles with Northern Illinois, University of Chicago, and Northern Iowa, but did prevail in both matchups against North Dakota.
 
Up next, the team heads to the Redbird Invitational this weekend, hosted by Illinois State. The event runs Friday through Sunday.
