BJ Freeman Picks Up Horizon League All-Conference Accolades

Repeats second-team status from last winter

March 04, 2024

MILWAUKEE – BJ Freeman of the Milwaukee men's basketball team was selected for Horizon League postseason honors today when the conference office announced the all-league teams and specialty award winners.

Freeman was named Second Team All-Horizon League, the second consecutive season he has been picked to the squad. In doing so, Freeman becomes the first Panther to earn career all-league honors twice since Joah Tucker (2005-06/2004-05).

Freeman picks up second-team status after a strong second season on the court with the Panthers. He leads the team in numerous categories, including scoring (20.3 ppg), rebounding (6.7 apg), and assists (4.3 apg). If he finishes the season at the top of each category, it would mark the first Panther since Clay Tucker in 2001-02 to lead the way in scoring/rebounding/assists.

He is shooting 83.8 percent (98-of-117) from the free-throw line, 37.2 percent (61-of-164) from three-point range, and adds 1.1 steals per contest. Heading into the postseason, he ranks tied for second in the Horizon League in scoring and tied for seventh in rebounding – one of just four players across the league to be in the Top 10 in both categories.

In league-only games, Freeman sits fourth in the league with his 20.6 ppg scoring clip. His 13 20-plus point games this year are the most for a Panther since the 2004-05 season and he has been named Horizon League Player of the Week three times this winter, including this past week when he posted back-to-back double-doubles against IUPUI and Green Bay. He enters the postseason having scored 20-or-more points in his past seven consecutive outings – the longest streak for a Panther in almost 30 years (1994-95 campaign).
