December 19, 2024

MILWAUKEE – Lainey Higgins of the Milwaukee women's soccer team has been named the Horizon League Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Season, the league office announced today.

Higgins was the honoree on the women's side from across the conference, joined by Wright State soccer senior Cole Werthmuller for the men.

Higgins, a three-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team as well as a three-time member of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, has put together an incredible career both on and off the field. A kinesiology major with a near-perfect grade-point average, she has earned a spot on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List every semester eligible.

On the field, she capped her MKE career this past fall by earning Horizon League Player of the Year honors, finishing second in the conference in both points (22) and goals (9).

She helped lead the team to Horizon League regular-season titles and NCAA Tournament appearances all four seasons, compiling an overall win-loss record of 55-16-10 (.741 winning percentage) to go along with a stellar 34-1-6 mark in conference games, including the final 29 of her career unbeaten (23-0-6). She was named United Soccer Coaches All-North Region each of the past three years (Second Team 2024/ Third Team in 2023 & 2022) and First Team All-Horizon League (2024/2023/2022).
