Volleyball Leads Horizon League with Four All-Academic Team Selections

INDIANAPOLIS – On Tuesday afternoon, the Horizon League announced the 2024 Volleyball All-Academic Team with Milwaukee leading the way with four selections.
 
Earning academic recognition from the league were Kara Erdmann, Lakyn Graves, Madi Malone and Natalie Schmitz. The quartet of Panthers led the way, with 17 Horizon League student-athletes earning recognition.
 
This is the first selection for Erdmann, Graves, and Schmitz, while Malone also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team in 2023.
 
Erdmann is currently studying finance and marketing at Milwaukee and has a 3.763 cumulative GPA at UW-Milwaukee entering the current fall semester. She is currently second in all of NCAA Division I in both total digs and digs per set, as she set the Milwaukee single-season record for digs in a season. Erdmann has 685 digs with an average of 5.76 digs per set.
 
Graves plans to graduate with a degree in biomedical engineering and has a 4.000 grade-point average. This year, Graves is 38th in Division I in total blocks with 127 on the year, which also leads the Horizon League. Her 1.07 blocks per set are third in the league while she has 30 service aces, placing her in the top-20 of Horizon League student-athletes.
 
Malone has a 3.553 grade-point average and is planning to graduate with a degree in elementary & middle school administration. Malone is currently in the top-100 in NCAA Division I in points and total kills and ranked 10th in the conference at 3.18 kills per set. Defensively she is 17th in the league in digs per set at 2.70.
 
Schmitz is currently studying accounting at UW-Milwaukee and has a GPA of 3.903 through the spring 2024 semester. She is among the national leaders in kills and is 12th in the Horizon League at 2.89 kills per set, while she is 20th in the league with a .223 hitting percentage.
 
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention team is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes but did not make the All-Academic team.
