MILWAUKEE – Lainey Higgins was named Horizon League Player of the Year,
Kayla Rollins the Offensive Player of the Year, and
Parker Donahugh was selected as the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year to highlight the selections for the Milwaukee women's soccer team when the league office announced the all-league teams and specialty award winners Friday afternoon.
Following a 9-0-1 record to claim the Horizon League regular-season title for the fourth consecutive year and the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, the Milwaukee women's soccer team saw eight total student-athletes get honored – six first-team selections and one second-team honoree. The six first-teamers mark a new highest-ever total (was five; four times) in program history.
Joining Higgins, Rollins, and Donahugh on the All-Horizon League First Team are
Anna Champine,
Senya Meurer, and
Elizabeth Reece, with
Ellie Rebmann picking up second team accolades.
Natalie Zodrow rounded out the award winners with a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Higgins is the ninth Panther all-time to win league Player of the Year honors, with the most recent coming from Rollins just last year. Speaking of Rollins, she repeats as Offensive Player of the Year and is the fifth time in program history to claim those honors. She's the first Panther to win the award twice in a career since Sarah Hagen back in 2010 and 2011.
Donahugh gives MKE the Goalkeeper of the Year for the third time in the past four seasons, joining
Kendall Edwards in 2023 and Elaina LaMacchia in 2021. Jamies Forbes (2011) is the only other to win the honor in program history.
Higgins, a First Team All-Horizon League and United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Third Team selection in both 2023 and 2022, earns a spot on the top league squad for the third straight season. She has started all 18 games this fall and has 19 points on eight goals and three assists, with her point and goal totals ranking second in the conference.
Rollins, the reigning Horizon League Offensive Player of the Year, has taken things to a new level this season and once again tops the Horizon League with her 29 points and 13 goals – a number that ranks No. 14 in the NCAA this fall. In league-only games, Rollins ranked first in goals (10), first in total shots (38), first in SOG per game (2.00), first in total shots on goal (20), first in game-winning goals (5), and first with 22 points.
Donahugh was nearly untouchable in league play this season, having allowed just two goals in her 10 outings. The two goals allowed in 900 minutes translates to a miniscule 0.20 goals-against average. The next closest HL goalkeeper carries a 0.59 GAA and the next closest to her eight clean sheets checked in with just three. She saw her scoreless streak end at 558:55 following the final game of the season after having posted five consecutive shutouts – the first MKE keeper to do so since 2019.
Champine has been a mainstay for the MKE defense since arriving on campus as a freshman, starting all 55 games she has appeared in since the start of the 2022 campaign in which she was named to the All-Freshman Team. This fall, she was a consistent presence in the back that helped the team to a 0.20 goals-against average in league play.
Meurer leads the way from the MKE midfield and has enjoyed a banner season, setting career highs in points (7) and goals (2), while just one off her career-best with three assists. The league honor is the second of her career, as she was also named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team back in 2022.
Reece has been a starter along the back line of the MKE defense since the first day of 2022 season – and has now started 55 of 56 matches since then. She is a part of defense that has allowed just two goals in 10 conference games for a goals-against average of 0.20. She also has career-best totals in points (9), goals (2), and assists (5) this season.
Rebmann earned a starting spot in the back and continued her rise all season long, proving to be an efficient player on both sides of the ball. As a starter on defense, she helped the team allow just two goals in 10 conference outings, but she also led the entire Horizon League offensively with her six assists in league play.
