Milwaukee Scores 12, Records Season-High 13 Strikeouts in Win vs. Carroll

FRANKLIN, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team made it a perfect homestand, closing out the four-game home stretch with a 12-3 win over the Carroll Pioneers on Monday at Franklin Field.

Six pitchers combined to strike out 13 Pioneers, tying the season high for Milwaukee this season. Dylan Szajkovics went the first two innings with three strikeouts, while Curtis Sheahan also pitched two scoreless innings and led the team with four strikeouts.

"Everyone that pitched today, we're going to need in some leverage situations moving forward if we want to get to where we want to go," said head coach Scott Doffek after the game. "Getting those guys the ball and getting them into a rhythm will be huge for us moving forward."

Gavin Theis went 1 2/3 innings before Nate DeYoung came on to close out the final three outs on 15 pitches.

Offensively, the Panthers had 14 hits to score 12 runs and were also tied for its season high with four stolen bases. Carson Hansen had two hits and drove in three while stealing three bags, while Jacob Kaiser also had three RBIs as he had two hits on the day including his first home run of the season. Aaron Chapman also had a pair of RBIs on the day on two hits including a double.

"We came out of the blocks swinging it pretty good and it worked out perfect," added Doffek on the offense. "We got some at bats from guys that bust their tails all week, so we're going to need those guys and it was great seeing them in there."

After Szajkovics mowed down the Pioneers in order in the top of the first inning, Ty Olejnik homered to open the scoring on a 1-1 pitch. Jake Novak doubled followed by a triple off the bat of Mark Connelly. Chapman kept the train moving with a double before Hansen singled two batters later to bring home Chapman and put the Panthers up by four.

Ryan Hoerter came on in the top of the third and surrendered the first Pioneer run on a sacrifice fly but avoided further damage to send the game to the bottom of the inning.

Milwaukee got the run right back as Justin Hausser singled and moved up to second on a ground ball before stealing third. Tommy Benson doubled down the left field line to put the Panthers up 5-1.

Sheahan came on in the fourth and set down the side in order with a pair of strikeouts to bring the Panthers back up to bat.

Novak walked with one down before Connelly singled to put two runners on. Chapman singled to plate Novak before Hausser walked to load the bases. Hansen picked up another RBI on a ground ball out to give Milwaukee a six-run cushion.

In the top of the sixth Tyler Deleskiewicz worked around a leadoff single to retire the side but was touched up for two runs in the seventh before Theis came on to get the first two batters of the inning.

Andrew Jimenez got his first hit of the season to lead off the bottom of the seventh before moving up to third on a wild pitch. Hansen walked but was thrown out trying to steal second. Benson reached on a fielder's choice as Jimenez was thrown out trying to score before Kaiser connected on a deep fly ball to left field that cleared the fence for a two-run home run.

Up by a 9-3 score, Theis retired the Pioneers in order in the eight to bring Milwaukee back up to bat one final time.

Thomas Otto was hit by a pitch as was Chapman to put two one with two down. Jimenez recorded his second hit of the day to score Otto before Hansen closed out his day with a run-scoring double to make the score 11-3. Benson followed with a walk to load the bases before Kaiser singled home the final run to cap off the scoring at a dozen for the Panthers.

DeYoung came on for the final inning and struck out two of the final three batters to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Milwaukee will be on the road on Wednesday, when the team visits the Iowa Hawkeyes for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch in Iowa City.
