HOUSTON (March 25, 2023 ) – Ahmad Rand of the Milwaukee men's basketball team has been selected to the King's Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship roster for the 34th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston on Thursday, March 30. Rand is one of eight players selected for the event that will air live on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
In all, Rand recorded a grand total of 69 slam dunks this season to lead the team by a wide margin, including a pair of outings in which he had five dunks in a single game. He became the first Panther to be named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year in program history this season as well as the first to be named to the All-Defensive Team since 2011-12. He will be the first Panther to participate in this event since Ed McCants in 2005, which takes place in the leadup to the Final Four.
In addition to averaging 8.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest and thrilling fans with his high-flying dunks, Rand was a force in the paint for Milwaukee on defense, shattering the school single-season blocks record and leading the conference and sitting 19
th in the NCAA with his 72 total blocks, an average of 2.1 per game. His season-highs included 18 points against St. Thomas, 11 rebounds against Cleveland State, and five blocks against IUPUI.
The State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships invites the nation's elite men's and women's college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights. The night features the King's Hawaiian Slam Dunk Championship, the TaxAct Men's 3-Point Championship, the Celsius Women's 3-Point Championship and the Applebee's Team Shootout. The winners of the men's and women's 3-Point competitions will then compete in the Rocket Mortgage Battle of the Champions.
For nearly 35 years, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships including Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Denzel Valentine, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, Kristi Toliver, Tiffany Hayes and Ariel Atkins.
Intersport will stage three events during college basketball's most exciting weekend at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston, which it will dub Hoops House, providing ample programming for fans near and far to whet their basketball appetites ahead of the college basketball's season finale.
