INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Milwaukee volleyball team's three-game winning streak was snapped on Tuesday, falling to IUPUI 3-1 on the road.
Miscues piled up for the Panthers, who had 16 reception errors, 10 service errors, and 23 attack errors.
The Panthers (4-11, 3-1 Horizon League) had control early on, scoring the first five points of the match. Milwaukee then used multiple four-point runs to push the lead to 20-10, but IUPUI stormed back.
The Jaguars (7-8, 1-2 Horizon League) rattled off eight straight points and later landed a kill to tie it at 23-23. MKE had chances to put it away but used a 3-0 run with a kill, block, and an ace to end the first 28-26.
In the second set, IUPUI again used a big run to steal momentum.
Bri Geurts landed a kill to cut the deficit to four but another 8-0 sprint from IUPUI had the home team up 23-11 and the Jaguars quickly were up 2-0.
Milwaukee bounced back in the third frame behind
Ari Miller and
Natalie Schmitz, who put away five kills apiece. The two combined for three kills in a 6-1 run which made it 17-10 in favor of MKE and the Panthers went on to win 25-21.
The Panthers controlled set four early as
Czhen Beneby came alive for three kills for a 17-14 lead, but IUPUI would not back down.
The Jaguars kept it close and took a 22-21 lead after an MKE error. Miller and
Maddie Moan answered with a block, but IUPUI responded with three straight points to hand the Panthers their first Horizon League setback.
Miller led Milwaukee with 13 kills and a career-high eight blocks.
Natalie Schmitz also reached double figures with 11 kills.
Kaley Blake recorded 24 assists, seven digs, and four aces while
Josie Johnson compiled 14 assists and four digs.
MKE will look to get back on track this Friday as the Panthers head to Wright State for a 5:00 pm contest.
