DAYTON, Ohio – The Milwaukee volleyball team could not get anything going offensively and fell 3-0 to Wright State on Friday night.
The Panthers were held to 33 kills and a .155 attack percentage in the loss as the Raiders totaled 57 digs.
Early on, MKE (4-12, 3-2 Horizon League) was step-for-step with Wright State, but an 8-3 Raiders' run had the home team in control.
The Panthers made a late push with two kills from
Ari Miller and two more from
Madi Malone and
Natalie Schmitz, but WSU took the first 25-20 after a kill and ace ended it.
Bri Geurts helped MKE pull in front in the second set, sparking a 5-0 run for a 10-5 lead. Miller put away another kill as the lead reached seven, but Wright State had a rally of its own.
The Raiders (11-3, 3-0 Horizon League) scored six of the next seven points to cut their deficit to two and later took a 19-18 lead after a 5-1 run. Another 4-0 burst had WSU up late before the Raiders' Sam Ott put MKE in a 2-0 deficit with a pair of kills.
MKE was hurt with another big run in the third as Wright State rattled off a 12-1 spurt including nine straight points for a 22-10 advantage.
Miller stopped the bleeding with a kill, but it was too little, too late as Wright State earned the sweep.
Miller led with 11 kills and added two blocks. Schmitz recorded seven kills to go with five digs and a block.
Josie Johnson and
Kaley Blake combined for 27 assists and 10 digs.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on preseason favorite Northern Kentucky at 3:00 pm.
