Panthers Pick Up Sunday Split Versus Oakland

FRANKLIN, Wis.  – The Milwaukee baseball team earned a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in game one to highlight a Mother's Day doubleheader split with Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies took a 6-2 win in the nightcap.

Both starting pitchers were rolling in game one with just two hits given up on each side through three frames. Oakland finally broke through in the fourth with three straight hits to open the inning for a 2-0 lead.

Milwaukee (18-24, 7-13 Horizon League) responded an inning later, however, as Tommy Benson roped a two-run homer to left center.

Two singles and a hit by pitch then loaded the bases for Mark Connelly and he brought in Quinton Morris for a 3-2 advantage.

That was all the Panthers would need as Ryan Hoerter worked a clean sixth with just nine pitches and AJ Blubaugh picked up his fifth save of the year with a perfect seventh.

Jack Mahoney earned the victory as he finished with six strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed across 5.0 innings.

After the Golden Grizzlies (25-22, 14-9 Horizon League) jumped in front early in game two, Ty Olejnik tied it 2-2 with a single through the left side to score Luke Seidel and Mitchell Buban.

Logan Schulfer came on in the third and was strong, but Oakland got to him in the sixth.

The Golden Grizzlies plated one in the frame to regain the lead. Milwaukee had an opportunity to match in the bottom half but a controversial call at the plate ended the threat.

Oakland added two more in the seventh and another in the ninth and relied on the arm of Brett Hagen who allowed just three hits to the Panthers.

Seidel totaled three hits on the day while Justin Hausser went 3-for-4 in game two.

The Panthers return to Franklin Field on Tuesday to host Northwestern at 6:00 pm. Live coverage links available on MKEPanthers.com.
