FRANKLIN, Wis. – Northwestern racked up 22 hits on Tuesday night as the Wildcats topped the Milwaukee baseball team 21-8 at Franklin Field.
The Panthers reached double digit hits as well, totaling 11, but the Northwestern home runs were the difference. The Wildcats had five home runs across the final four innings to put the game away.
Milwaukee's
Mike Edwards and
Andy Neu held Northwestern in check early, but the Wildcats took advantage of MKE miscues in the fifth.
NU (21-23) scored five runs on just three hits to pull in front 7-4 and never relinquished the lead.
The Panthers (18-25) responded to a pair of Wildcats home runs in the sixth with one of their own as
Jack Thelen blasted a three-run shot down the left field line to cut it to 10-8.
Northwestern added more homers in the both the eighth and ninth innings, scoring five runs in each frame.
Tommy Benson and
Aaron Chapman each had two hits apiece for MKE.
Justin Hausser drove in a pair while Thelen brought in three with his home run.
The Panthers used seven pitchers on Tuesday night with Neu taking the loss.
