Lundy Adds Keon Edwards To Men’s Basketball Program

Highly-ranked high-school athlete lands with Panthers

MILWAUKEE – Keon Edwards of Houston, Texas, has signed with Milwaukee and will join the roster of the men's basketball team, head coach Bart Lundy announced today.

"We are excited to announce the addition of Keon Edwards to our program," Lundy said. "Keon is an amazing talent and a high-character young man. He will add size and a high-level skill set to our team."

Edwards, a 6-foot, 8-inch, 204-pound guard, comes to the Panthers after spending last season at Nebraska, appearing in 19 games, making five starts.

"He is poised for a breakout in his career and we are fortunate to be the beneficiaries," Lundy said. "Keon will be a fan favorite and an awesome addition to our university community."

Coming out of high school, Edwards was one of the top players in the 2021 class, as he was a four-star prospect and was a consensus top-100 recruit. He was ranked No. 41 by ESPN, No. 75 by 247Sports, and No. 80 by Rivals. ESPN also had him rated as the eighth-best small forward in the 2021 class, while Sports Illustrated had him in its top 99 high school seniors in the class of 2021.

In limited minutes with the Cornhusker last winter, Edwards scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Edwards transferred to Nebraska in April of 2021 after spending the 2020-21 season at DePaul University. Originally in the class of 2021, Edwards reclassified and enrolled at DePaul in December of 2020, making appearances in five games for the Blue Demons.

He spent his final high school campaign at Hillcrest (Ariz.) Prep, averaging 14.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.9 blocks in 18 games, helping the school rank as high as second nationally. He shot 45 percent from the field, including 43 percent from 3-point range for Hillcrest, highlighted by a 44-point effort.

Prior to transferring to Hillcrest, Edwards played for Findlay (Nev.) Prep as a sophomore in 2019. Edwards also participated in a pair of USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team minicamps in July and October that year. He played AAU basketball with Drive Nation on the EYBL Circuit for former NBA all-star Jermaine O'Neal. Edwards chose Nebraska over a host of schools, including Alabama, Georgia, Lamar and Grand Canyon University following his decision to transfer.
