Panthers Continue Conference Run at Home

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee tennis team continues conference play this weekend hosting the defending Horizon League champions UIC for a 1 p.m. dual match Saturday afternoon at Elite – River Glen.  
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Milwaukee tennis team improved to 7-10 overall and jumped out to a 2-0 record to open league play this past weekend.
 
On Senior Day, the Panthers defeated IUPUI 6-1, and all three seniors, Anika Tylek, Mayya Perova and Nikki Milner tallied W's.
 
Against, Northern Kentucky, freshman Avery Durham gutted out a 2-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 performance and clinched the match for the Panthers.
 
ABOUT THE FLAMES: The UIC Flames are currently on an eight-match win streak and enter the dual 12-3, 2-0 overall. To open league play, UIC defeated Northern Kentucky 5-2 and IUPUI 7-0.
 
The Flames have three players with double-digit wins in dual play, Agnes Gustafsson, Ana Jover Tamara Malazonia. Gustafsson is 13-2, 2-0 all from the No. 1 singles line. She is currently 9-1 in the last 10 matches with an eight-match win streak. Jover is also on an impressive match streak, winning her last 12 matches all from the No. 3 singles line.
 
In doubles, UIC comes in at 24-12 with Gustafsson and Jover leading the way with a 13-3 overall and 9-2 dual record. The duo have won seven straight and are 8-2 in their last 10 matches.
 
The Flames defeated Youngstown State 4-1 in the 2021 Horizon League Championships. The Flames have totaled 19 women's tennis league championships over the course of their program history.
 
CURRENT LEAGUE STANDINGS: After a weekend of Horizon League play, here's what the standings look like:

SEASON AWARDS: This week, Avery Durham and Mayya Perova were named Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week for their performances over IUPUI and Northern Kentucky. The pair swept the weekend, dropping just five games winning 6-2 from the No. 1 doubles line over IUPUI and 6-3 over NKU. 

Mayya Perova was tabbed Horizon League Singles Player of the Week for her performances over Chicago State and Whitewater back on March 12. The senior star went 2-0, dropped just four games combined, and improved to 12-1.
 
Sophomore doubles duo Greta Carbone and Iva Stejskalova have also collected the league's Doubles Team of the Week accolade twice this season.

NEXT UP: After UIC, the Panthers will have just three remaining conference matches. The Panthers will hit the road next weekend beginning Friday, April 15 at Cleveland State and will follow-up with Youngstown State the next day. Milwaukee and the CSU will square off at 4 p.m. (CT) at the Medial Mutual Tennis Pavilion, and a 3 p.m. (CT) is slated for the Panthers and Penguins Saturday from the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
