FRANKLIN, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team exploded for 17 runs on 15 hits in game two of Sunday's doubleheader to top Youngstown State 17-4 and earn a split. The Penguins handed the Panthers a 11-2 setback in the opener.
Milwaukee (14-20, 4-10 Horizon League) matched a season high with the 17 runs and moved to 10-0 when scoring at least eight runs.
Luke Seidel drove in six runs in the win, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam.
He sparked the first-inning rally with a leadoff single as
Justin Hausser put MKE on top with a two-RBI double down the line.
Up 4-1 the third, Seidel struck again as he cleared the bases with his first homer of the season to give the Panthers a seven-run lead.
"Luke came up with some big hits," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "In these conditions, a two or three run lead is nothing so that was huge to jump ahead. Anytime you drive in six, you've had an outstanding day."
On the mound,
Eliot Turnquist got his second start and did what the Panthers needed to in the route. Turnquist earned the win, allowing just two earned runs in 5.2 innings.
"They were tough conditions to pitch in," Doffek said. "Eliot did just enough to keep the momentum on our side and then we tacked on some big innings."
After YSU (13-25, 8-8 Horizon League) got one back in the fourth, the Panthers put up five in the fourth and three more in the fifth for a 16-2 advantage.
Mitchell Buban laced a two-run homer to cap the fifth and
Jacob Kaiser finished the scoring in the seventh as he lifted a pinch-hit solo blast.
In game one, Youngstown State capitalized on Milwaukee miscues to hand the Panthers an 11-2 setback.
The Panthers totaled a season-high four errors, accounting for five unearned runs for YSU.
Buban drove in one run in the first with an RBI single and
Mark Connelly crossed on a wild pitch but that was all MKE could push across in the opener.
Connelly finished the day 5-for-6 with a pair of walks, two doubles, and a triple. Buban was 3-for-4 in the nightcap with three RBI.
Milwaukee next hits the road to take on Northwestern on Tuesday, April 26 at 3:30 pm. Live coverage links available on
