MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Illinois State hit an 11th-inning home run on Tuesday to hand the Milwaukee baseball team a 4-3 loss at Franklin Field.
The Panthers (12-17 overall) scored two runs in the ninth to extend the game but the late home run handed MKE its second straight loss.
"A lot of encouraging things but at the same time, the result is what we're here for and that's the discouraging point," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "You get what you deserve, and they deserved to win."
Logan Schulfer was terrific in his fourth start of the year, striking out three and scattering two hits while allowing just one earned run across 5.0 innings of work.
Tied 1-1 in the seventh, Illinois State (14-17 overall) took advantage of a pair of Milwaukee errors to pull in front 3-1.
The Panthers continued to threaten and finally broke through in the ninth as
Justin Hausser and
Conner Goodman reached base to open the inning.
After
Mitchell Buban advanced the runners with a bunt,
Jake Novak hit a sacrifice fly to score Hausser and
Mark Connelly singled up the middle to score Goodman and tie it 3-3.
AJ Blubaugh took care of business in the ninth and tenth for the Panthers, striking out four in hitless frames to keep ISU off the board.
In the 11th, the Redbirds' Jake McCaw put Illinois State back on top with a solo home run and sat MKE down in order to seal the win.
Jack Thelen reached four times, going 3-for-4 with a walk. Connelly and Nogalski also had multiple hits, totaling two apiece.
Milwaukee will be back in action tomorrow as they take on MSOE in Glendale at 4:00 pm. Live coverage links available on
