Panthers Suffer 4-3 Heartbreak Loss to Northern Iowa

WATERLOO, Iowa – The Milwaukee Tennis team tallied wins from Mayya Perova, Avery Durham and Anika Tylek in singles play, but the Panthers came up short against Northern Iowa on Sunday afternoon from Black Hawk Tennis Club.

Milwaukee gave it their all to try and bounce back from an early one point deficit from falling in doubles, but the three wins in singles ended up just short of a match victory. With the loss, the Panthers move to 3-8 while UNI improved to 3-7.

Senior Mayya Perova extended her match streak to eight with a straight set 6-4, 6-2 victory over UNI's  Lorena Dardoso. Perova is now 9-1 on the season so far.

MKE's Avery Durham collected her fifth win on the season, dropping just five games, winning 6-2, 6-3 from the No. 5 position.

Northern Iowa's Issa Sullivan almost forced a third set tiebreaker, but senior Anika Tylek finished off Sullivan in the second set tiebreaker to finish 6-2, 7-6 (6). With the win, Tylek improves to 5-4 overall.

Milwaukee plays a little closer to home next weekend as the Panthers travel to Chicago State and UW-Whitewater. The Panthers and Chicago State are set to faceoff Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m. from the Park Forest Health and Fitness Club, and will follow-up with the Warhawks Sunday at 4 p.m. from Lake Geneva Tennis.
