UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State scored three runs on four hits in the seventh inning to edge the Milwaukee baseball team 6-4 on Friday evening.
"Riley didn't have his sharp stuff like always but he competes his tail off," head coach
Scott Doffek said. "Gave us an opportunity for sure. We were simply not competitive enough in the box and let some defensive plays get away from us."
The Nittany Lions (6-9 Overall) got on the board first, cashing in with a two-out triple in the second inning.
Nate DeYoung helped Milwaukee (5-7 Overall) respond, driving in
Mitchell Buban to cut the deficit in half in the fourth.
An inning later, the Panthers rallied for three runs on five hits including a triple from Buban and another RBI single from DeYoung
Riley Frey racked up pitches with four walks but managed to allow just two earned runs across 5.1 innings pitched.
The Nittany Lions jumped on the MKE bullpen, getting to the Panthers for four runs late.
Ryan Hoerter was charged with three earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. The junior struck out one and walked one.
DeYoung finished with three hits for MKE, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Milwaukee and Penn State will meet for game two of the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm CT.
