Panthers Set to Take on Chicago State and Whitewater

MILWAUKEE – Just four non-conference duals remain for the Milwaukee tennis team, and the Panthers will cross off two more this weekend as the team is set to travel to Chicago State and UW-Whitewater this weekend. Milwaukee will play Chicago State Saturday, March 12 and Whitewater on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT: The Black & Gold had a rough weekend, falling both to Drake and Northern Iowa.

Senior Mayya Perova, however, tallied two wins at singles to improve to 10-1 overall – including an eight-match win streak. Perova is 8-1 from the No. 2 singles line, but has also picked up two wins from the No. 1 line as well.

ABOUT CHICAGO STATE: The Chicago State Cougars have already doubled the number of match victories compared to the 2021 season. The Cougars are currently 6-10 and coming off a loss to fellow Horizon League opponent, UIC (5-2).

Chicago State's roster is senior heavy, consisting of one graduate student and five seniors.

Junior Katarina Dukic leads the way for the Cougars with an overall record of 8-3, competing primarily from the 4-6 singles lines.

Katarina Drazic and Krsitina Pukhaeva are combed for 14 singles wins and have been shuffled 1-6 in the lineup throughout the season.

ABOUT WHITEWATER: Last fall, the Warhawks claimed its 15th consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. Whitewater will host a four-team WIAC Team Tournament in April to determine the league's automatic qualifier for the DIII NCAA Tournament. The Warhawks have now earned 22 conference titles in program history.

So far this spring, Whitewater has lost to Northern Illinois and will take on Augustana and Grinnell before meeting up with the Panthers on Sunday.

SEASON AWARDS: Sophomore doubles duo Greta Carbone and Iva Stejskalova have earned league Doubles Team of the Week twice this season. The accolade was awarded for the weeks of February 16 and March 2.
