HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
AJ Blubaugh pitched six shutout innings and the Milwaukee baseball team totaled a program-record 11 stolen bases in a 12-2 win over Alabama A&M on Sunday afternoon.
"It was a good team win," head coach
Scott Doffek commented. "AJ [Blubaugh] did a great job of setting the tone and we did a nice job in the box and on the bases creating pressure."
Blubaugh was impressive in his first outing of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out six in six complete scoreless innings.
Milwaukee (3-0) notched one run in the first inning and took control in the third inning with six more on five hits.
The Panthers were aggressive on the base paths, tallying seven stolen bases alone in the third and 11 for the game, topping the previous program record of 10 which was set on April 10, 2010 against Butler.
In the fifth,
Conner Goodman drove in a pair with a double to put MKE up 10-0 before Alabama A&M (0-3) responded with two in the seventh.
The Panthers tacked on one more run in each of the last two innings and
Gavin Theis pitched a clean ninth in his first appearance for the black and gold.
"It was great to get outside this weekend and see the guys get after it," Doffek continued. "Certainly, came away with a lot to work on but I'm proud of the guys for their effort."
Goodman finished the game with four RBI on two hits while four others also recorded two hits.
Luke Seidel and
Mitchell Buban had three stolen bases apiece for MKE.
The Panthers next head to Tucson for a four-game series with Arizona beginning on Thursday, February 24.
