MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Friday night, falling to Green Bay 3-0 at the Klotsche Center.
Milwaukee (10-19, 9-9 Horizon League) held late leads in each of the first two sets but failed to close out the frame and fell in three. Green Bay hit .379 for the match.
The Panthers were in control of the first set 15-10 before a quick 5-0 spurt by the Phoenix had Green Bay (22-10, 13-5 Horizon League) right back in it. Kills from
Madi Malone and
Bri Geurts would put MKE back up two and the Panthers would hold that until GB once again found an equalizer at 22-22.
Natalie Schmitz landed a kill, but two Green Bay kills and a block gave the Phoenix a 25-23 victory in the first.
It was a similar story in the second as Milwaukee got out to a 20-17 advantage, but Green Bay fought back and tied it late. The teams traded points before
Sarah Schrader gave MKE a set point at 27-26 but three straight for the Phoenix ended it 29-27.
The Phoenix used the momentum into the third and could do no wrong, hitting .538 with 16 kills. Green Bay got out to an early lead and Milwaukee could never recover, falling 25-16.
Ari Miller and Schmitz each recorded 11 kills to lead the Panthers. Miller added seven blocks.
Kaley Blake and
Josie Johnson combined for 39 assists and eight digs.
Madi Malone totaled nine kills and nine digs.
Milwaukee will wait until tomorrow evening to learn its seed for the Horizon League Championship which begin on November 18 from Dayton, Ohio.
