Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa – The Milwaukee women's tennis team completed the final day of action in the Bulldog Classic Sunday, taking on Omaha in doubles action and, for a second straight day, battling Creighton in singles play from the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
 
"Today was another important lesson for us," head coach Ryan Kucera said. "We came out flat in singles, it took us a whole set on most courts to get ourselves into the match. Once we had that wake-up call, we performed much better. Our level raised significantly as the match went along, it was just too tough of a hole to climb out of. Overall, despite the lack of results, we had many positive moments and learned important lessons that will pay off for us if we can learn with determination."
 
Sara Simonova led the way in singles, dispatching Allison Wilcox in an efficient 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6.
 
Alice Shields forced a super tiebreaker at No. 4 after leveling the match at 1-1 (3-6, 6-2), but came up short in the deciding tiebreak, 10-6.
 
"In doubles, despite similar results as yesterday, we improved on every court," Kucera said. "We were more consistent in executing our tennis, and our energy was fantastic yet again. The level again in doubles was high, and I think the biggest thing that hurt us was a lack of experience. We will continue to get tougher and more confident on deuce points, and it will help us as we continue."
 
Babette Burgersdijk and Anika Tylek picked up the only victory in doubles play, edging the Mavericks combo of Ines Absisan and Alexa Di Giulio, 8-6. Nadiia Konieva and Giorgia Cavestro gave Addison Miller and Keegan Van Pelt a good run but fell, 8-6.
 
"The results we had at the bottom of the lineup in both singles and doubles was evidence of how deep our team is, so that is a great sign moving forward," Kucera said.
