Nikki Milner and
Anika Tylek all won their first match to kick off the 3
rd Annual Bethany Moore Invitational hosted by Ball State University.
The Panthers saw success in singles play with three wins coming from the team's veterans. Last season's Horizon League Freshman of the Year,
Greta Carbone picked up right where she left off with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Youngstown State's Elisa Rigazio. Carbone came up shy in her second match to Jessica Braun of Ball State, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, and is set to take on YSU's Claudia Rosas for third place.
Nikki Milner won 6-2, 0-6, 10-8 over Ball State's Hannah Davies to start her senior season. Milner was defeated 3-6, 2-6 in her second match, and will face Eliska Masarikova (YSU) for third.
Also playing for third tomorrow,
Anika Tylek will be paired against BSU's Isabelle Behrman. Tylek earned her first victory of the 2021-22 season over Aashi Kapoor (Tiffin) 6-2, 6-3.
Newcomer
Giorgia Cavestro will play in the consolation final Saturday after dropping her first match, but winning her second. Cavestro bounced back with a with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Dominique Reynolds (Tiffin) 6-3, 6-1. She will take on Oakland's Emma Hultqvist in the consolation final.
All three Panther pairings fell short in their first doubles action of the season. Carbone and Stejskalova will battle horizon league opponent Yasmin Glazbrook and Nirva Patel from Oakland. Milner and newcomer
Babette Burgersdijk are set to face Emily Barrett and Anaelle Lepinay from Tiffin, while Tylek and Cavestro will face Julia Piatek and Emma-Lou Pommiers from Eastern Michigan.
The tournament will conclude Saturday with doubles play will beginning at 10 a.m. C.T., followed by singles play.
