Panthers Take Down Norse, 5-2

CINCINATTI, Ohio – After a rough outing Saturday, the Milwaukee tennis team rebounded Sunday afternoon defeating Northern Kentucky 5-2 from the Five Seasons Sports Club in Cincinnati.

Strong play in both doubles and singles play, the Panthers (8-5, 1-3) split the series with the Norse (4-3-1, 1-1) after winning 5-2 in a Sunday matinee.

"To be blunt, we were pretty awful in every phase of the game yesterday, and I challenged each girl on the team to think about all the ways that we could be better today," said Panther head coach Jason Potthoff. "They did exactly that, and went out and competed at an unbelievably high level against a really tough team. I'm very proud of this group and the character they showed today, and I'm excited to see them get out there and battle against next week."

MKE's Mayya Perova and Nikki Milner started off with the first win in doubles play defeating Ananya Kothakota and Elizabeth Rozin 6-3 from the No. 2 line, but the Norse squared it up when Maria Koo and Laura Grau defeated Greta Carbone and Iva Stejskalova, 6-2. The Panthers clinched the point when seniors Anna Daniel Fuentes and Agata Jurczak won 6-2 over Margita Sunjic and Sylvia Gray.

After falling in Saturday's match from the top singles line, Greta Carbone came back and won in straight sets over two-time Horizon League Player of the Year, Margita Sunjic, 6-4, 6-0.

Squared up at two points apiece, MKE clinched the match by winning the next three singles matches.

Daniel Fuentes improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 on the weekend with a clutch win from the No. 4 singles line. Daniel Fuentes defeated NKU's Anaya Kothakota 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Anika Tylek finished next, also defeating her opponent in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Next, Nikki Milner rounded out the match with a 6-7(3), 7-6 (8), 1-0 (12) victory over Sylvia Gray.

Up next, Milwaukee will return home for it's next four matches – starting with IUPUI, Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m. from River Glen Elite. Saturday's match will also serve as MKE's Senior Day, honoring Anna Daniel Fuentes, Agata Jurczak and Lucy Harper.
