MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Thanks to a season-high attack percentage of .464, the Milwaukee volleyball team earned its fourth consecutive sweep, downing IUPUI 3-0 to complete a perfect 5-0 homestand at the Klotsche Center.
MKE (17-6, 11-0 Horizon League) nearly set a program record with the .464 attack percentage, just missing the top mark of .474 from 2009. The defense was also outstanding, holding IUPUI (3-20, 1-11 Horizon League) to a -.011 hitting percentage, the first time MKE accomplished that feat since 2011.
"Again, very efficient and very competitive," head coach
Susie Johnson said. "It was pretty awesome to see. You can tell we have a lot of experience on the court. They are not relaxing at all and finishing fast."
Serving was the key factor in the first frame as the Panthers totaled eight aces to help fuel a few big runs. Milwaukee had runs of 6-1, 6-1, and 5-0 as they rolled to a 25-10 victory in the first.
Then the offense took over. Milwaukee had just two errors the rest of the way, hitting .574 with 29 kills in sets two and three.
In the second,
Madi Malone led the charge with four kills while
Ari Miller added three. Leading 16-9, the Panthers rattled off nine consecutive points for a 25-9 win.
Carmen Heilemann was nearly perfect in the third set as she put away seven kills in eight swings (.875). Miller added five kills in six swings as the Panthers hit .680 in a 25-16 set-three win.
Jess Grabowski led the defense with 10 digs and added four assists and a pair of aces. Six others totaled at least three digs apiece.
Senior
Rylie Vaughn facilitated nicely with 29 assists and five digs, helping lead to the season-high attack percentage.
Heilemann finished with 10 kills and zero errors in 14 attacks and added five digs, a block, and two aces. Malone also reached double figures with 10.
Miller recorded a match-high five blocks and added nine kills with a .467 hitting percentage.
Sarah Schrader recorded a career-high four aces in the sweep.
Milwaukee will next gear up for a tough week of three road matches at Green Bay (Oct. 25), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 28) and Wright State (Oct. 29).
