Trio Heats Up in Comeback Win over Green Bay

MKE hit .291 in the win over the Phoenix

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Carmen Heilemann, Madi Malone, and Ari Miller combined for 52 of 62 kills as the Milwaukee volleyball rallied to top Green Bay 3-1 at the Kress Center on Monday night.

"Credit to Green Bay, they played great. They put a lot of pressure on us from the service line and made it hard for us to score," head coach Susie Johnson commented. But our team continued to get better as the match went on and it was an overall solid team effort and a hard-fought win."

After losing a late lead and dropping a marathon first set 32-30, Milwaukee (18-6, 12-0 Horizon League) came back with a vengeance and took the second 25-22 behind a .378 attack percentage and 17 kills. Heilemann put away three kills in a 5-0 run that put MKE up 18-14 and the Panthers did not relinquish the lead to tie the match at 1-1.

The Phoenix (11-13, 6-6 Horizon League) fought to a 12-8 lead in the third set, but the Panthers found Heilemann again with three kills in a 7-0 run to put the visitors up 15-12. Malone logged two kills to put MKE up four late and Heilemann added a pair to end it 25-19 and pull Milwaukee in front.

In the fourth, setter Rylie Vaughn had one goal and that was to set the Panthers' big three. Heilemann, Malone, and Miller combined for 33 of the Panthers 38 attempts and put away all 15 of the Panthers' kills.

Green Bay once again came out strong, but another run with kills by Malone and Heilemann put MKE in front 20-19. The Phoenix responded with a pair of kills but Miller landed two of her own and added a block as MKE took the set 25-21 and the match.

Heilemann once again did it all as she led all players with 19 kills along with five digs and four blocks.

Malone recorded a double-double of 17 kills and 10 digs in addition to a pair of aces while Miller put away 16 kills with just one error and a .375 attack percentage.

Vaughn dished up 54 assists and added eight digs. Jess Grabowski led three in double figures with 15 digs while Sarah Schrader totaled 11.

The Panthers stay on the road with a matchup at Northern Kentucky on October 28 followed by a matchup with Wright State on October 29.
