BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Milwaukee tennis team finished the Redbird Invitational on a high note defeating the Dayton Flyers Sunday afternoon. With a 4-1 victory over the Flyers, the Panthers finished in third place.
The Panthers (6-5) got off to a great start by dominating doubles, dropping just three games in total. Reigning Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week,
Mayya Perova and
Anika Tylek swept their opponents 6-0, while
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Agata Jurczak clinched the doubles point by winning 6-3 over Natalie Allen and Erica Wojcikiewicz.
"Today's match was just the kind of performance we needed after the physically and emotionally draining battle we had yesterday," said head coach
Jason Potthoff. "Everyone came to the courts ready to compete and we were really efficient with our energy and played with a sense of urgency to close out sets today. We are looking forward to getting back out there on Thursday against Marquette."

Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Anika Tylek secured the match by winning each of their matches in singles. Senior Clarke set the tone for the Panthers by sweeping Kelly Pleiman, 6-1, 6-0. Daniel Fuentes and Tylek followed in suit with Daniel Fuentes wining 6-3, 6-1, and Tylek dropping just four total games to win, 6-2, 6-2 over Natalie Allen.
The black & gold have just two non-conference matches left before league play, and will face crosstown rival, Marquette Thursday, March 5. The match will be played at the Helfaer Tennis and Recreation Center and is set to begin at 5 p.m.
