Tennis Cruises to a 6-1 Victory Over Chicago State

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team now owns a three-match win streak after defeating the Chicago State Cougars 6-1 Sunday afternoon from River Glen Elite in Milwaukee.

After a 5-2 victory over Valparaiso Saturday, the Panthers (4-2) continued its confident play against the Cougars (0-5) Sunday, winning by a final score of 6-1.

"This team is growing physically stronger and more mentally tough by the day," said head coach Jason Potthoff. "We didn't get off to a great start in either doubles or singles, but every Panther took on the personal responsibility of fighting from start to finish. We did play some good tennis in order to close out the matches, but what won the match for us was the heart and the fight of everyone in the squad today."

In doubles, the No.1 and No. 2 doubles teams for the Panthers are now a combined 10-1 after winning today's matches. At No. 1, Nicole Clarke and Nikki Milner won 7-5 and remain undefeated, while Mayya Perova and Anika Tylek improve to 5-1 after a win over Katarina Dukic and Susana Andres, 6-4.

Leading 1-0 after earning the doubles point, MKE took a commanding lead when the Panthers won three-of-four matches to begin singles. Picking up wins from the get-go were Mayya Perova, Nicole Clarke and Lucy Harper. With the win, Clarke continues her unbeaten streak at 6-0 from the No. 3 line.

Also earning wins in singles were Anna Daniel Fuentes and Anika Tylek. Fuentes improved to 5-1 on the season with a win over Lizi Morgoshia, 7-6 (7), 6-3, while Tylek claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Katarina Dukic to improve to 4-2.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Bradley University on Sunday, February 16. The match slated for an 11 a.m. start time from Clubs are River City.
