SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Milwaukee baseball team had a quiet day at the plate Saturday, falling to Sacramento State by a final score of 8-1 at John Smith Field.
The Panthers (1-6) struggled against a strong Hornets (4-2) pitching staff that now boasts a season ERA of just 1.45 after six games.
Scott Randall (1-0) put together a strong start for the home side, finishing with six strikeouts and no walks over the first 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits.
That offense for MKE came in the seventh, when
Mike Ferri singled in
Zach Nogalski, who had doubled to lead off the inning.
The offense was held in check, with Nogalski leading the way with another 2-for-4 day to raise his season average to .375 (9-for-24).
Joe Vyskocil,
Jack Thelen and
Ty Olejnik also added base hits for the Panthers.
Mike Edwards (0-2) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over the first 3.0 innings.
Matt Vanek had another solid outing, giving up just one run over his 4.0 innings of work, striking out a pair.
The two teams finish off the weekend series Sunday, set to start at 1 p.m. CST.
