MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After last weekend home, the Milwaukee tennis team will now spend the next six matches on the road beginning with the Bradley Braves Sunday in Peoria, Ill.
WHEN & WHERE: The Panthers have just a single dual this weekend in Peoria. The two teams will square off at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb., 16 from Clubs at River City.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES: The Braves are coming off 16-8, 4-1 (Missouri Valley) 2019 record, and currently sit at 2-4. Wins this season include Horizon League's IUPUI and Saint Louis.
Two-time MVC All-Select and All-MVC Sandra Maletin leads the Braves in experience and success. Maletin racked up a 24-7 overall record a season ago from the Braves No. 1 singles line, and tallied a 13-13 record from the No. 1 doubles line with Natalia Barbery. The Serbian native is currently 12-2 overall.
Also leading the team is Maletin's doubles partner, Natalia Barbery. Barbery was named All-MVC (No. 4 Singles) last season, while accumulating a 21-8, 5-0 overall record. The 5-0 conference play record marked the first time a player in Bradley Women's Tennis history went undefeated.
LEAGUE HONORS: In just the third week of competition, the Panthers earned more league honors for the week of February 11. MKE swept both categories with
Nicole Clarke earning Singles Player of the Week, while
Mayya Perova and
Anika Tylek earned Doubles Team of the Week.
Senior
Nicole Clarke remains undefeated at 6-0 in 2020 after going 2-0 last weekend with wins over Valparaiso and Chicago State and help the team improve to 4-2. In both matches, Clarke won in straight sets defeating Valparaiso's Amanda Tabanera 6-3, 6-2 and Cougar's Katarina 7-5, 6-2
Sophomore tandem
Mayya Perova and
Anika Tylek went 2-0 and help the Milwaukee Panthers to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Valparaiso and Chicago State. The duo defeated Valparaiso's Demi Jhaveri and Isabella Schoolcraft 6-1 and Chicago State's Katarina Dukic and Susana Andres 6-4.
For the week of Jan. 28, Clarke and
Nikki Milner were also tabbed Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week.
NEXT UP: The black & gold will look to conquer the state of Iowa next weekend with a trip to Drake and Northern Iowa February 22-23. Following Drake and Northern Iowa, the Panthers will travel back to Illinois for a two-day invite at Illinois State.
