MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Milwaukee tennis team finished the Gopher Invitational Sunday at Baseline Tennis Center with
Nicole Clarke and
Anika Tylek leading the way with runner-up finishes in their respective draws.
Milwaukee's Clarke and Tylek battled in each of their championship matches, pushing the match to three sets each, but both came up just short to finish runner-up.
Matched up against Minnesota's Isabella Lambert, Clarke got off to a fast start winning the first set 6-4, but couldn't get the edge in the final two sets, falling 4-6 and 5-7 for the final.
Tylek also commanded the first set winning 6-2 over North Dakota's Frida Soko, but fell in the next two sets 1-6, 2-6.
The Panthers closed out singles play successfully with
Agata Jurczak,
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Lucy Harper winning their final matches of the Invite.
In Group F, Jurczak won in straight sets defeating Green Bay's Jenna Noel, 7-4, 6-2. With the win, Jurczak placed seventh in the group.
Also winning in straight sets were Daniel Fuentes and Harper. Daniel Fuentes won 7-5, 64 over GB's Estelle Vanthier, while Harper defeated North Dakota's Alex Revenig, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Next up, Milwaukee's next competition comes Oct. 11-13 in Rochester, Mich., for the Western Michigan Invite.
