MKE Volleyball Announces 2019 Schedule

Panthers to host 13 home matches this season

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee volleyball team will host 13 home matches, including the annual Panther Invitational, Panther head coach Susie Johnson announced today with the complete release of the 2019 schedule.

For the second year, Milwaukee will take advantage of the new NCAA rule allowing for exhibition matches, heading to Peoria, Ill., for a match against Bradley on Aug. 21.

The official start of the season will come one week later with a trip to Nashville for the annual Bruiser Showcase Aug. 30-31. The action will start early Friday against Arkansas State before taking on host Belmont to round out day one. MKE will then wrap up its stay in the Music City with a Saturday matinee against North Alabama.

The following weekend will see the Panthers take part in Drake's annual home tournament. The schedule has Milwaukee going up against Eastern Washington and Saint Louis in back-to-back matches on Friday, Sept. 6 before taking on the Bulldogs the following morning.

Milwaukee then starts a busy home stint, starting with the annual Panther Invitational Sept. 13-14. Following the opening match of the tournament, MKE will take on Southeast Missouri State at 12:30 Friday before closing out the day against for league foe Butler with a scheduled first serve of 7:30 pm. The final match of the weekend will feature the Panthers taking on Western Michigan at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Just three days later, Milwaukee will once again play on its home court in hosting fellow perennial mid-major power Northern Illinois for a 6 pm contest.

Four more matches await to close out the non-conference portion of this year's schedule. That stretch will start with a weekend tournament at South Dakota State. Milwaukee will take on UMKC and the host Jackrabbits Friday before squaring off with yet another former Horizon League foe in Valparaiso Saturday morning. MKE and Valpo will then go head-to-head again just three days later inside the Klotsche Center for a 6 pm match.

Conference play starts with four consecutive road matches for the Panthers, taking on UIC and Green Bay (Sept. 28-29) the opening weekend before a trip to Northeast Ohio Oct. 4-5 to take on Cleveland State and Youngstown State.

Milwaukee will then start a nice home stretch, hosting five of their next six matches. Northern Kentucky comes to campus Oct. 11 for a 6 pm showdown before a quick trip to Oakland for a Sunday matchup. The Panthers will then play host to IUPUI and Wright State (Oct. 18-19) before the start of the second half of league play when YSU and CSU (Oct. 25-26) make the return trip.

November starts right out of the chute with matches at Wright State and IUPUI (Nov. 1-2).

MKE will then wrap up the regular season with three of its final four contests at home. Oakland comes to the Klotsche Center Friday, Nov. 8. Two days later sees the final road match of the regular season with a quick trip to NKU. Milwaukee will then host UIC and defending champ Green Bay Nov. 15-16 before attention shifts to postseason play.

This year's Horizon League Tournament will once again be hosted by the regular season champs and is scheduled to run Nov. 22-24.
