MEQUON, Wis. – After 12 innings of play, the Milwaukee baseball game was called to a 5-5 tie against the Parkside Rangers due to a facility curfew at Kapco Park.
Errors plagued both teams in the back and forth matchup with each team capitalizing on each other's mistakes throughout the game. The Panthers move to 27-17-1 and the Rangers 10-34-1 in the five-all tie.
Parkside struck first in the third inning knocking in two runs on two hits. After a leadoff walk and Kurt Mlachnik running on the pitch, Rangers' Noah Tyrrell scored Mlachnik with a base hit to right center accounting for the first Ranger run of the inning. Parkside then scored it's second run in a suicide squeeze two batters later to lead 2-0.
In the fifth and sixth innings, Milwaukee took advantage of two costly errors by Parkside for 4-2 advantage. A single run in the fifth was unearned, and MKE's two-of-three runs were unearned in the sixth when
Trevor Schwecke singled to right field with the bases loaded. Pinch runner
Nick Winter easily scored from third, while
Matt Quartel and
Nate DeYoung crossed the plate when the ball went between the right fielder's legs traveling all the way to the wall.
After
Jack Mahoney struck out the side in the seventh, a throwing error in the eighth from the right hander trying to double up Parkside, led to two Ranger runs and knot the game up at four apiece.
Both teams exchanged runs while also exchanging errors in the ninth inning for yet another tie.
UWP looked to take the lead in the ninth with bases loaded and two outs, but MKE's
George Swedie came up with a big strike out to end the inning and keep the ball game square at five.
Milwaukee looked to win it In the bottom of the 12
th when
Colin Kreiter led off with a walk, and pinch hitter Josh Moeser stole second with one out, but Parkside held Moeser at second and got the next two batters out to end the game in a tie. The game was called at 11 p.m. due to the facility curfew.
The Panthers collected 11 hits in the game with
Trevor Schwecke leading the way with a 3-for-5, two RBI performance.
Milwaukee will resume conference play against Oakland for a three-game series. Game one will be played on Friday, May 11 from Henry Aaron Field with a 3 p.m. start. The Panthers and Golden Grizzlies will then play game two at Miller Park Saturday, and wrap up the series Sunday for Senior Day back at Henry Aaron Field.
