KENOSHA, Wis. – The Milwaukee baseball team jumped ahead quickly in the first two innings and then pulled away late, claiming a 12-5 victory over MSOE Wednesday afternoon at Augie Schmidt.
The Panthers (9-8) pounded out 14 hits against the Raiders (3-8), playing a game in the month of March in the state of Wisconsin for the first time since the 2014 campaign.
Milwaukee plated three runs in the first and four in the second, putting the game away with a four-run seventh after an 8-0 lead was trimmed down to 8-5.
Seven pitchers combined on the effort against MSOE, while 15 field players saw action, with a trio coming through with multi-hit efforts.
Trevor Schwecke led the way with a 3-for-5 day, scoring three times and knocking in a pair.
Mitchell Buban was 2-for-3 with two runs scored;
Mike Ferri went 2-for-3, while
Tyler Bordner finished with a team-high three RBI in his two plate appearances.
Jack Mahoney (1-0) picked up the victory in the scheduled 2.0-inning start. He struck out the side in the first inning and ended up with four K's and two hits allowed in his outing.
Matt McCarty threw 2.0 scoreless frames, with
Kevin Lane (1.1 IP/2 K),
Matt DeYoung (1.0 IP) and
George Swedie (1.0 IP/1 K) locking it down in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
The Panthers hit the road to resume Horizon League play, opening a three-game series at Northern Kentucky Friday. First pitch against the Norse is set for 2 p.m. CST.
