Panthers Begin Stetson Invite with Four Match Wins

DeLand, Fla. – The Milwaukee tennis team traveled south to DeLand, Fla., for a three-day invite hosted by Stetson University. The Panthers kicked off the invite against Jacksonville State winning a total of four matches on day one.
 
The Stetson Invite is a three-day dual meet between 12 teams, and features a round robin format with teams playing at two different campus locations each day.
 
In singles, senior Nicole Clarke lost just two games the entire match, winning 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets over Baslen Kaya. Fellow senior Anna Daniel Fuentes also won in straight sets beating Sara Jamal 6-1, 6-2.
 
Reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Mayya Perova, battled her first match of the Invite with Harriet Hamilton, and came out on top to win 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
 
Junior Agata Jurczak also went to a tiebreaker, but fell just short falling3-6, 6-1 (10-7) to Alessia Locati.
 
In doubles, MKE's Perova and Anika Tylek teamed up at the No. 2 position and defeated JSU's Baslen Kaya and Sara Jamal, 6-2. Jurczak and Daniel Fuentes went back and forth with JSU's Locati and Alberteau, but came up shy, 7-6 (10-8)
 
Up next, the Black & Gold will take on Barry University beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
