MILWAUKEE, Wis.- Despite the lengthy delay, the Milwaukee tennis team found success on the court with
Alexandra Belle and
Mayya Perova opening the 2018 season at the 43
rd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove, Wis.
Once the courts dried off and deemed safe to play on, Belle opened the fall season against Colorado State's Emily Kolbow. Belle was firing on cylinders from the get-go and defeated Kolbow in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. With the win, the France native is set to face No. 15 seeded Jasmine Asghar of Oklahoma Friday.
Freshman
Mayya Perova gained valuable experience early this fall season with a matchup against Georgetown's Lindsay Zimmermann. In her collegiate debut, Perova fell short in the match, 6-1, 6-1 to Zimmermann.
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic brings in talent from all over the US with players coming from SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Ivy League in addition to nearby and in-state opponents, Marquette and Wisconsin.
The event will run through Sunday, Sept. 23 with Championship Sunday being held at the Al McGuire Center.
