13 Panther Hits Not Enough Against the Hawkeyes

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Milwaukee baseball team capped off its streak of road games with a 12-4 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes Wednesday evening from Banks Field.

Milwaukee (15-19) notched 13 hits to Iowa's (24-13) 11 in the contest and jumped out to an early lead scoring right away in the first inning, but leaving nine runners on base and committing five errors proved costly against the hot handed Hawkeyes.

The Panthers began the game with back-to-back singles provided by hot hitting Devin Rybacki and Matt Quartel. After Rybacki was caught stealing home in a first and third situation, Ben Chally came up clutch with a single to score Quartel. Tyler Bordner and Colin Kreiter strung together two hits, with Kreiter's single scoring Chally for an early 2-0 lead.

Iowa answered back in the next two frames with three runs, but Milwaukee's demise came in the third inning when the Hawkeyes scored eight runs – all of which were unearned. The Panthers committed four errors leading resulting in a big inning and a commanding 11-2 lead for the Hawkeyes.

Milwaukee was held scoreless until their last at-bats in the ninth. After Joey Scaffidi reached on a Hawkeye fielding error, Trevor Schwecke belted his third homerun of the season. The Panthers tallied two more hits in the inning, but falling in the hole early in the game proved too much for a late inning comeback.

Milwaukee will finally host its first home game after 34 straight games on the road Thurs., April 26 against MSOE. First pitch between the Panthers and Raiders is set for 3:30 p.m. from Henry Aaron Field.
