MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team bounced back nicely on Sunday at River Glen Elite against IUPUI with a 6-1 win.
The match could have broken a much different way without the boost Milwaukee got in doubles.
Nicole Clarke and
Loren Nelson claimed a 6-4 win over IUPUI's Valeriia Laurenchuk and Sam Mayer. After Senior
Labina Petrovska and sophomore
Anna Daniel Fuentes dropped their match at the No. 2 spot 6-4, the doubles was all tied up at 1-1.
Freshman duo
Agata Jurczak and
Lucy Harper displayed their clutch gene in a testing matching against Molly Nguyen and Marina Schneiger. The bout ended 6-4 in favor of Milwaukee to win the doubles point.
"Getting the doubles point was big," said Milwaukee head coach
Jason Potthoff. "We didn't play our best tennis today, but we hung in there and got it done."
The Panthers cruised through the singles category. The Panthers won five of six matches in straight sets to claim the dual.
"We found a way to win some quick first sets and put points on the board and there were some great individual efforts," said Potthoff. "Now we need to re-focus and set our sight son Green Bay, and I know the tam wants to finish the regular season on a high note – especially for Labina's senior day."
Milwaukee will finish the regular season at home against Green Bay on Sat., April 21 at 1 p.m. The day will also celebrate senior
Labina Petrovska and her career as a Panther.
