Spaulding, Volpis Sign With Milwaukee Volleyball

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee volleyball team will add two more standouts to their 2018 roster, head coach Susie Johnson announced Thursday.

Lauren Spaulding will be a freshman at Milwaukee this fall. Shari Volpis also has signed to join the Panthers this fall, coming to UWM from Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles, Calif.

Spaulding comes to Milwaukee from nearby Sheboygan North High School, where she recently wrapped up an impressive prep career as a four-year varsity starter. A two-time First-Team All-Fox River Classic honoree racked up nearly 400 kills as a senior and graduated with over 1,000 for her high school career. She was also named First-Team All-Area as a senior, as well as being voted a team captain twice and named valedictorian.

"Lauren will be a great competitor for us," Johnson said. "She has all the skills necessary to be successful, particularly her ball control and desire to win. We are very excited for Lauren to join our program this fall."

Volpis spent her last three years at Pierce College – a junior college in Los Angeles, Calif. As a freshman, Volpis tallied 190 kills in helping the Brahmas to an incredible 34-6 overall record, finishing as state runners-up. After missing the 2016 season with an injury, Volpis returned better than ever; being named the Western State Conference East Division Player of the Year this past season. An outside hitter, she racked up a team-high 330 kills – second most in the conference – and 111 digs as a sophomore. All that led to her being named the Female Athlete of the Year this year at Pierce College.

"Shari brings a lot of experience to us as an outside hitter," Johnson said. "She has a lot of game experience and using that here will certainly help. She has a very fast arm and fast feet, which will add to our quick offense. Shari is also very competitive and a natural leader."
