DES MOINES, Iowa – Day one-of-two in Iowa proved tough for the Milwaukee tennis team as the Panthers fell to Drake, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Milwaukee (0-6) met an undefeated Drake (6-0) team Friday in preparation for Horizon League play in a little over a month. Despite the loss, the young Panther team continues to improve. "It doesn't show up in the score, but today was our most complete effort as a team," stated head coach
Jason Potthoff. "We played with really good energy and I expect that to carry over to tomorrow's match."
After being swept in doubles, Milwaukee pushed a match to three sets and a two-set tiebreaker but were unable to muster out a victory.
At No. 2 singles, the match between Panthers'
Loren Nelson and Tess Herder went down to the wire to a tie breaker. Nelson and Herder rallied, but Herder came out on top defeating Nelson 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
UWM's
Lucy Harper rallied back in the second set after dropping the first set 6-0 to 3-6 at No. 6 singles, but was unable to keep the momentum into the third set losing the final set 6-0.
The Panthers close out the weekend with a trip to Northern Iowa Saturday. First serve of the match is set for 12 p.m.
