Red Hot Panthers Cruise To 45-Point Win

22-0 third-quarter run helps propel Milwaukee to win

MILWAUKEE – Seniors Bailey Farley and Jenny Lindner each scored 21 points as the Milwaukee women's basketball team cruised to a 90-45 win over Detroit Mercy Friday night from the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers (20-9, 11-6 Horizon) used a 22-0 run in the third quarter to blow open what was already a lopsided affair into the team's largest win of the season, with the 45-point win equaling the third-largest margin of victory in program history.

Milwaukee finished the game with all 11 players scoring – the seventh time this season they've gone that deep in the scoring column this season.

"I think our starters really set the tone in the beginning of the game, and then our bench just followed that," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "The energy in the gym was great. We were really locked into the game plan. I was probably most proud of our defense. Our offensive flow has been really good the last two and a half games – including this game. I just knew, defensively, that we needed to lock in and that has really been working for us lately; the new defense that we put in."

Lindner had the hot hand right out of the gates and finished with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go with 11 rebounds. That marks her 20th career double-double, tying her with Erica Young for fifth most in program history.

Farley also had 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. She also collected four rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals.

Jamie Reit also finished in double figures with 13 points.

As a team, the Panthers connected on 11 three-pointers – the third time in the last four games they have hit 11 from downtown and just the fourth time all season they finished with at least 10 in a game.

A close game after one, Milwaukee continued its hot shooting into the second quarter while cooling off the Titans. Up 21-17 entering the frame, Lizzie Odegard and Lindner each hit a three early in the second before a jumper by Steph Kostowicz and suddenly it was a 31-17 lead. That lead grew all the way to 47-27 at the break, closing the quarter out on a 9-2 run.

After a layup by Detroit Mercy early in the third to close with 49-29, Milwaukee exploded offensively while completely smothering the Titans on the defensive side of the ball. Reit got the run going from the charity stripe before the threes continued to fall for Farley and Reit to make it 59-29 with 5:43 left in the frame.

The lead continued to swell before ballooning all the way to 42 after back-to-back threes from Farley and McKaela Schmelzer to make it 71-29, capping a 22-0 blitz by the Panthers to remove any doubt in this one.

Milwaukee's bench continued the dominance in the fourth quarter. Alyssa Fischer started things off with a jumper before a bucket by Akaylah Hayes. Ryaen Johnson got in on the scoring with a turnaround in the paint to go with her three blocks and five rebounds.

UWM finished the game shooting 47.1 percent (33-70) from the floor and 45.8 percent (11-24) from behind the arc.

Milwaukee hauled in a season-high 56 rebounds compared to Detroit Mercy's 32 – with the plus-24 edge on the boards equaling the second largest for the Panthers this season.

Another notable stat line from Friday's contest is Milwaukee's 21 assists – third most all season – compared to its season-low output of nine turnovers.

Up next, the Panthers will close out their regular season Sunday with a 2pm contest against Oakland. Sunday will mark the final home game for Milwaukee's four seniors, with "Senior Day" festivities taking place before Sunday's tipoff.
