Oakland's Hot Shooting Spoils Home Finale

Lindner leads all players with 23 points in the loss

MILWAUKEE – Ciarra Bond finished with 21 points and sparked Oakland to a red-hot shooting performance in an 80-75 win over the Milwaukee women's basketball team Sunday afternoon from the Klotsche Center.

The Golden Grizzlies (14-15, 7-11 Horizon) connected on a season-high 14 three-pointers – including five in the decisive fourth quarter – to take down UWM (20-10, 11-7 Horizon) in the final regular season game of the year.

"I'm disappointed in our defense," Milwaukee head coach said. "We were locked in the last four games, and we just were not very good on that end of the court today."

Jenny Lindner led all players with 23 points to go with six rebounds and three assists as she broke the school record for starts with her 121st in this her final home game as a Panther.

Bailey Farley finished 8-of-12 from the floor for 19 points and a pair of steals, while Steph Kostowicz flirted with a triple-double with 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Kostowicz also broke the school record for blocks in a single season with her 54th on the year.

Jamie Reit added seven points and eight rebounds, while McKaela Schmelzer tallied seven points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Bond had the hot hand early, finishing with 21 points to lead four Oakland players in double figures in this one.

A back-and-forth battle most of the way, Milwaukee erased a 10-point deficit in the third quarter with a 13-3 run to tie things up at 47-47 after three quarters, setting up an entertaining home finale.

Back-to-back buckets by Reit and Kostowicz early in the fourth gave Milwaukee an early 55-52 edge. After an Oakland answer, the Panthers had a response of their own with an and-one play from Farley to put her team back up 63-60 with 4:56 left.

That proved to be Milwaukee's final lead of the game as Oakland connected on four of its next five shots – including a pair of threes – to go up 70-66 with 2:24 left.

The Panthers continued to fight, with Farley drilling a three from the corner with 24 seconds left to cut the gap to 74-72, but couldn't get any closer in the tight loss.
Milwaukee finished with a 28-16 edge in points in the paint and out-shot OU, 48.3 percent compared to 42.9 overall, but Oakland's near 50 percent shooting performance (14-29) from behind the arc proved to be too much to overcome.

Up next, the Panthers will head to Motor City Madness – the conference tournament hosted at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit, Mich. UWM finishes the regular season as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 Youngstown State Sunday, March 4 at 1:30 pm Central.
